Originally published in 1978, this expressive and dynamic anthem from Undine Smith Moore is ideal for Lent or anytime a choral setting of the Kyrie is needed, and it has now been re-released in the St. Olaf Choral Series. Editor Anton Armstrong notes that Undine Smith Moore was often referred to as the “Dean of Black Women Composers,” and while many of her compositions are concert arrangements of African American spirituals, this piece is an original work written in the harmonic and melodic style of a spiritual.
