The Smalcald Articles

The Smalcald Articles

Martin Luther composed the Smalcald Articles in 1536. They include a confession of ancient trinitarian doctrine as well as Luther's teaching on Christ's atoning work, the concept of trust, monastic life, and the papacy.

This translation of the Smalcald Articles is excerpted from The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, edited by Robert Kolb and Timothy J. Wengert (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2000).
