Syncopation and delight abound in this setting of Luther’s classic chorale “From Heaven Above.” Norris not only sets the tune in 3/4 but also plays with the rhythmic accents of the text, providing interest and excitement. The accompaniment is idiomatic to the piano and doesn’t merely double the voice, and optional percussion give more flexibility to directors.
