Composer Commentary
When I was in 8th grade, my church choir director and piano teacher, Ronald A. Nelson, offered to give me composition lessons along with my piano lessons. This was a life-changing event, and over the next six years “Ronnie” both taught and encouraged me, and often used my compositions in worship. He also convinced the then Augsburg Publishing House to publish two of my early works, one of which was the original version of I Am the Light. Ronnie passed away in 2014, and it is to him that I humbly, gratefully, and lovingly dedicate this new edition.
