Wedding Settings for Organ

Wedding Settings for Organ

Although intended originally for use in weddings, most of the pieces in this collection are based on hymns that will be used throughout the year, making this a versatile volume. Edwin Childs has a nice touch with these organ preludes and processionals, giving them interest but without too much difficulty.

Composer Commentary

Each church organist plays for numerous weddings during a lifetime of service.  As a result, they accumulate a “book” of appropriate pieces for Service Music and Marches to please the bride and her mother.  This book of Wedding Settings is mostly hymn-tune based with each piece dedicated to a marriage of significance for me.  My two children, now both happily married, bear the mark of an “organ” wedding.  For my daughter who was married on my birthday I wrote a Processional that is the only piece in this collection that is not hymn-tune sourced.  (See if you can catch the snippets of “Happy Birthday.”)  Although the book’s title is “Wedding Settings” these pieces may be used at any time as organ service music.
