Love That Found Me

Love That Found Me

Expressive singing is needed in this arrangement of Grieg's poignant “Homesickness” paired with the introspective text of William McComb’s “Chief of Sinners Though I Be.” The voices are often presented in pairs and sometimes treated canonically. The sparse piano accompaniment has typical Grieg harmonies. A reflective and beautiful piece.

Composer Commentary

I love the piano piece, “Homesickness,” one of Grieg’s Lyric Pieces, Op. 57.  I was drawn to the first section with its lovely melancholy melody and its haunting harmonies. I wanted to create a version for voices using a text that reflected that poignancy, combining somberness and hope.   William McComb’s hymn text lent itself to such a purpose, with its themes of confession and the realization of Jesus’ love as the ultimate answer.  It gave me great pleasure to immerse myself in Grieg’s beautiful music.
