Installing the LBW Symbols Font

Windows

The Windows version of the LBW Symbols font is supplied as a TrueType font. In Windows and all Windows-based applications, TrueType fonts display on screen exactly as they appear when printed.

To install the LBW Symbols font:

  • Download the Windows ZIP archive file to your computer and remember where you save it.
  • Find the file called LBWSP___.TTF and move the file to your computer's font directory (usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts).

Macintosh

The Macintosh version of the LBW Symbols font is supplied as a Postscript font. Postscript fonts contain two components: a screen font (for screen viewing) and a printer font (for printing).

To install the LBW Symbols font in Mac OS 8/9:

  • Close all applications.
  • Download the Macintosh StuffIt archive file to your computer. Expand the downloaded file, then drag the two files, LBWSymbolsPlain.bmap and LBWSymPla, onto your closed System Folder. The Macintosh will place the printer and screen fonts where they belong.
  • If you have a font manager such as Suitcase or ATMDeluxe, copy the fonts into the Font folder you have set up on your hard drive and load them from there. Consult your font manager if you are unsure how to do this.

To install the LBW Symbols font in Mac OS X:

  • Download the Macintosh StuffIt archive file to your computer. Expand the downloaded file.
  • Drag the two files, LBWSymbolsPlain.bmap and LBWSymPla, to the Fonts folder inside the Library folder on the OS X disk.

Note: Windows TrueType fonts can be used with Mac OS X, so if you prefer TrueType over PostScript, you may download the Windows ZIP archive to your Mac OS X computer. Once you've opened the ZIP file, move the file called LBWSP___.TTF to your Fonts folder as described above.

Font Character Chart

The LBW Symbols font set is designed to mirror the set of liturgical cues in Lutheran Book of Worship and With One Voice. Lutheran Resources for Worship products have been designed so that these symbols might easily be inserted in Lutheran Resources for Worship documents by using the search and replace (or find and change) capabilities of your word processor or desktop publishing program. For P, replace capital P with LBW Symbols P. The same may be done with C, L, and A. The plus symbol, "+", may be replaced with the cross.
