Ecumenical, Liturgical, and Lutheran
Organized along the same seasonal and topical principles as LBW, With One Voice brings together a wealth of material that serves the three-year lectionary and the liturgical year while honoring the Lutheran theological emphasis on Gospel and the unity of the church.
A Variety of Liturgical Options
Two complete settings of Holy Communion are included, based on liturgical texts from LBW and the English Language Liturgical Commission.
Setting 4. Light of Christ setting by Daniel Kallman, offers a full, festive range of options for the Holy Communion service. The music represents a coordinated variety of styles from chant-like to Latin-American to Gospel, and includes an energetic new setting of This Is the Feast.
Setting 5. Bread of Life setting by Jeremy Young, is full of rhythmic vitality and simple yet enduring tunes. This direct and engaging music is laid out in a straightforward format with a minimum of options, for use throughout the year.
A new Service of Word and Prayer, based throughout on texts of Scripture, offers a complete liturgy with music in place. Music by Robert Buckley Farlee and J. Bert Carlson includes a new scripture song, Great and Wonderful Are Your Deeds, based on Revelation 15. A new Offering Song with words for the various seasons of the church year is based on a text by Susan Palo Cherwien.
In addition, an extensive service music section includes some widely used, as well as new liturgical music by Mary Haugen (Now the Feast and Celebration, Mass of Creation), James Capers (Liturgy of Joy), Jay Beech, the Detroit Folk Mass, Michael Hassell, and a number of settings from the church around the globe.
Singable, memorable melodies characterize the music written for the liturgies of With One Voice. Current musical sounds and rhythms predominate, and the accompaniment is oriented to leadership by piano and/or guitar (with addition of melody instruments and percussion if desired), although it can be effectively led with the organ.
