No Copyright Notice

If there is no copyright notice, does that mean that it is not protected under copyright?

Just because you do not see a copyright notice does not mean that the material is not under copyright. The notice may be missing for a number of reasons, for example:
  • The material you are looking at is only an excerpt from a larger publication and the copyright notice is found elsewhere.
  • The material may be an unauthorized photocopy and the copyright notice has been intentionally omitted.
  • The copyright notice was unintentionally omitted from this printing of the publication and appears in later reprints. Since recent changes in the copyright law have revised the notice requirements, it is always wise to do some research before assuming that material without a copyright notice is actually in the public domain.
