Three Topics for Church Choirs Moving Towards Excellence
Every church choir, from 3 singers to 100, can do some simple things to help them get better and better as musicians, and ultimately in their ministry. The bonus for a choir that improves its quality is that the number of participants and their reliability inevitably rises too. Come and learn what these three topics are for yourself.
Columbus: Mitch Rorick
Sustaining (Not Polluting!) the Choral Environment
In this session, We will focus on the impact of environment in the choral rehearsal. Whether it is the rehearsal room, systems, or conductor, these all effect success. Room layout, rehearsal habits, and visual presence can influence, either positively or negatively, choir effectiveness. Mr. Rorick will share various ideas and principles leading to a sustainable and fresh choral experience.
Seattle: Rebecca Gilmore
A Job Description at Age 8: Children's Choirs with Purpose
In this workshop, Rebekah Gilmore will explore how the expectation of liturgical leadership from your children's choir will dramatically heighten each child's sense of call and purpose in the Body of Christ. If you are worried that choir needs to be fun to retain members, Rebekah will challenge the definition of "fun" and give every day rehearsal, movement, and musical ideas to engage your children in a pattern of life-long leadership in the church. Children's choirs never need to rely on the "cute-factor".These are little people of God with real gifts to giveâ¦even in Kindergarten.
Seattle: Leslie Martin
Practical Improvisation for Church Organists
This workshop will offer some practical ways to promote creativity in hymn playing, as well as develop skills to improvise your own “chorale preludes”.
Columbia: Mark Glaeser
