 Jelil Romano
Biography
Jelil Romano is the Music Director of Mary Star of the Sea Church in San Pedro, the largest Catholic Parish west of the Mississippi. He was Music Director at the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana in Los Angeles for over 20 years until its closure due to earthquake damage. Mr. Romano has played for President Clinton and for Pope John Paul II, for whom he also directed the choir at an inter - religious event. He has also served on the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Music Commission.
As an active member of The American Guild of Organists, he has served on the board of the Los Angeles Chapter in many capacities, including Dean. In addition to winning many Guild prizes and scholarships, he has played recitals for many chapters, as well as the National and Regional Conventions of the AGO. A popular dedicatory recitalist, Mr. Romano played for the organ rededication at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, one of the world’s largest installations. Mr. Romano is on the faculty of California State University at Los Angeles and Pasadena City College.
